The Île-de-France is the region in northern France surrounding the capital in Paris. The Parisian city centre and modern life are often closely associated with the French Impressionists especially, but it was the landscapes and townscapes outside of the city centre in towns and villages where they lived that they more frequently painted. Monet is closely associated with Argenteuil in the 1870s, Vétheuil in the 1880s and the river Epte; Pissarro with Louviciennes and Pontoise in the 1870s and Éragny in the 1890s, and Sisley with Port-Marly in the 1870s and Moret-sur-Loing in the 1890s.
