Based in a Grade II* listed building in Bethnal Green, east London, Young V&A is a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum and contains the nation’s finest childhood collections dating back to the sixteenth century. The collections are categorised into seven sections: archive; children’s clothing; dolls houses and miniatures; ephemera; home and childcare (early years and furniture collections); play and learning (dolls, games and puzzles, puppets and toy theatres, soft toys and toys); and representations of childhood. Alongside the permanent collections and a programme of temporary exhibitions, the Museum runs a comprehensive Learning Programme for schools, families, young people and adults. The Programme includes: teaching sessions; daily art and craft activities and tours in the galleries; adult tours; targeted educational projects; and special events at weekends and during school holidays. The Museum’s Community Programme runs artist-led workshops with local schools and community groups to create new work for public display inspired by the Museum’s collections and themes.
