The Archives hold a wealth of fascinating institutional and personal archives, dating from the seventeenth century to the present day. Among its varied collections are: the institutional records of Queen Mary and Westfield College 1882 to present; private papers of individuals and the records of several organisations, dating from the eighteenth century to the 1990s; and rare prints, dating from seventeenth century to the 1960s. The highlights are the private papers of Constance Maynard (1849–1935), educational pioneer, artists John Martin (1789–1854), Benjamin Haydon (1786–1846), James Smetham (1821–1889) and Samuel Palmer (1805–1881), Sir Neville Lyttelton (1845–1931), general, and Donald Chesworth (1923–1991), politician and administrator.
