This terracotta memorial by George Tinworth commemorates John Hernaman, headmaster of the school for boys in the parish of Lambeth for 25 years. Tinworth was a greengrocer’s son from Lambeth, who pawned his clothes so he could study at the Lambeth School of Art. After studying at the Royal Academy Schools, he became the in-house sculptor and leading modeller at the Doulton factory in Lambeth.
