Lucy is a freelance editor and writer and graduate of the MA History of Design & Material Culture programme at the University of Brighton, where she completed a dissertation on the design and selling of wallpaper in the 1930s. This return to academia followed a varied career encompassing fashion buying and product development for high street chains, museums and charities; cataloguing paintings for Art UK; translating and teaching French; and proofreading.
Her first degree was from the University of Cambridge where she read Modern Languages. She has also held many voluntary roles in the museum sector including Chair of the Friends of the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture at Middlesex University which inspired her love of wallpaper.
