Over two days in March 2022, Hartlepool Borough Council, in partnership with the Northern School of Art, commissioned the artist-photographer, Alice Hawkins, to create new work in connection with her show 'The Female Gaze: Revisited' at Hartlepool Art Gallery in early 2022. Hawkins developed a creative casting brief and engaged students at the Northern School of Art who then responded to said brief to cast for the photoshoot. The students selected locations, subjects, costumes and themes and assisted Hawkins on each shoot. The result is a set of photographic portraits, unique to Hartlepool, which reflect the contemporary character of the town and the people who live here. A selection of images from the shoot were then displayed as part of 'The Female Gaze: Revisited' exhibition and acquired into the permanent collection of Hartlepool Museums and Heritage Service.
