Ceres (2001) / was carved by sculptor Jon Edgar/ from a century-old Sussex oak field gate post. Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture and harvest which seems fitting / for watching over both deliveries and purchases of local food, / just as the post had been a sentinel of the field
