A memorial commemorating more than 1,000 staff, students and alumni who fought in the First and Second World Wars. It was extended in 1952 to include the names of fallen soldiers from the Second World War. The crests of the University, Navy, RAF, RAMC and Army are engraved into the stone above the memorial. In a niche above is a bronze sculpture of Saint George at Kelso, symbolising good overcoming evil.
