This painting was commissioned by the Queen’s University Women’s Forum to acknowledge the role and influence of women, past and present, in the life of Queen’s.

Michelle Rogers’ striking image of elegance and power was designed specifically for the Council Chamber, in the heart of the University. The painting sits perfectly above the panelling, the long shadows cast by the emerging figures seemingly emanating from the raking light of the Gothic windows situated to the left of the canvas.

In deciding not to depict specific women, Rogers has captured the spirit of every woman who has contributed to the academic, administrative and support structure of life at Queen’s from its foundation in 1845 into the future.
