This is a half-length portrait of Robert Cattle, who was an alderman and Lord Mayor of York from 1840–1841.

In this portrait he wears aldermanic robes, a light brown waistcoat, a white cravat, and the Lord Mayor of York’s chain of office. His right shoulder is slightly towards us.

This is a copy of an original portrait which is now in the collection of the Mansion House in York.
