Michael Long was born in Canada and served as the 80th Lord Mayor of Belfast from 9 May 2022 to 1 June 2022. A dental surgeon by profession, Councillor Long completed the remaining three weeks of his predecessor Kate Nicholl’s term after her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly in May 2022. Councillor Long made history as the only person (apart from his wife) to have served as Lord Mayor and Lord Mayor’s consort whilst also serving the shortest ever term as Lord Mayor. Councillor Long’s wife Naomi held the position of Lord Mayor from June 2009 to June 2010. Michael Long has represented the district electoral area of Lisnasharragh since May 2014 and previously served as High Sheriff in 2021
