Dr Gillie practised in central and West London. On the Central Health Services Advisory Council (1956–1970), she chaired its working group on 'The Field of Work of the Family Doctor' (Gillie report, 1963). Annis Gillie was the first-ever female Chair and President at a time when the general practice was very male-dominated. She was also President of the Medical Women’s Federation (1954–1955). During her time as Chair, many important historic moments occurred including the institution of an examination for membership; the purchase of 14 Princes Gate and the award of the College Mace. To celebrate Dame Annis Gillie’s award of an honorary MD by the University of Edinburgh in 1968, the Scottish fellows, members and associates had raised funds to make her a presentation.
Shown wearing a green dress with a jacket and the Presidential chain and pendant. This portrait was copied from a photograph, taken in 1967.
