Portrait of John Murray, Physician. Born in Dumfriesshire and a graduate of Edinburgh. John was on active service as a naval surgeon from 1739 to 1759, then in practice at Wells-next-to-Sea. He was one of the first Physicians to be appointed to the Hospital in 1771.
In 1775 he founded the Scots Society of St Andrew's (Norwich). He wrote articles on slavery and the government of America.
