This portrait of John Menzies was painted around 1829, when St Mary's College opened, to commemorate Menzies' gift of the estate to the Catholic Church. In the centre right of the painting the scroll on the table says 'St Mary’s College Policies'. The house above it is the original college which became Blairs College.
