Horace George Turney trained at St Thomas’ Hospital and remained closely connected with the hospital for the next 60 years. He won the Mead medal in medicine and pathology and was resident assistant physician 1891–1893 before becoming physician. He was elected a consulting physician and later a governor, serving on the grand committee and as a almoner. He was twice Dean of the Hospital Medical School and was physician to the Nightingale Nurses Training College. During World War I he served at the 2nd London General Hospital and was created an OBE for his services in 1919.
