A painting on paper showing the royal yacht HMY ‘Victoria and Albert II’ off the Isle of Wight as seen from Spithead. Osborne can be seen in the centre of the picture. On the far left is the royal yacht which was launched in 1855 and remained a royal yacht, operated by the Royal Navy, until 1900. In the centre is a frigate, possibly the screw-frigate ‘Immortalité’. On the far right in the background is the iron-clad ship HMS ‘Warrior’. She was built in 1861 and was the first iron-hulled, armour-plated warship built for the Royal Navy. In the foreground there is a small yacht of the Royal Yacht squadron with four figures on board. The royal family frequently spent holidays on the Isle of Wight at Osborne, where they had a home.
