A memorial to Erasmus Darwin who lived in Lichfield from 1756 to 1781. In 1985 the late John Sanders, a vice-president of the Lichfield Civic Society, had the idea of creating a 10-mile walk encircling the city to commemorate Erasmus Darwin's association with Lichfield. The four-fold silhouette cut-out of a young Erasmus has each figure holding a different item in the outstretched hand to represent the four major aspects of Darwin’s career: botany, medicine, science and writing.
