The water garden pond formed part of Captain Sandys-Winsch's designs for Wensum Park in 1925 – running parallel to the Wensum. It is attractively planted and inhabited by a wide range of ducks and geese. The present bridge was commissioned as part of the campaign to restore the Norwich Parks around 2000. It replaces the earlier bridge shown in a photo of 1964 made of eight steel panels bolted to the bridge. The present bridge has curving balustrades whose movement evokes reeds bending in the wind.
