Railings comprising nine repeating square panels, separated by brick piers into blocks of three. Six panels depict scenes of industry or industrial manufacture – colliery headgear, chimneys, a miner, a smith at his anvil, a steam train and items of pottery. Three panels depict scenes associated with leisure – horse racing, fishing, and pigs routing under a tree (referring to a local communal open space originally known as Swine Green, now re-named New Square). The work acknowledges the area’s industrial past. Formerly known 'The Goit' or 'Furnace Hill', this area was once home to potteries, mills, an iron and chemical works, and a colliery, all of which were served by the Brampton railway branch line. The work has a lot of vegetation growing behind and through it and is rusting in places.
