Sculptor, born in Chilcompton, Somerset, near where he settled at Wellow. Studied with Clifford Ellis at Bath School of Art, 1937, then was apprenticed to the sculptor Lindsey Clark and studied at City and Guilds of London Art School in period to World War II. He was elected a fellow of RBS in 1970. Did a large amount of commissioned ecclesiastical work, including items for Oban Cathedral, 1951; Bath Abbey, 1959–60; Downside Abbey, 1974; and in America. Watts was one of a long line of Roman Catholic artist-craftsmen. There was a retrospective at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, 1999–00, coincident with the publication of Watts’ memoirs, Chipping from Memory, including a full catalogue of his sculpture. He was married to the painter Anne Coulson.
