Painter and teacher, born in Uddingston, near Glasgow. She studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, then for a short time in Paris. Mitchell taught portrait painting at Gray’s from 1917–53, then pursued a career as a portrait painter. Lord Boyd-Orr and the children of Lord Airlie were among her sitters. She showed widely in group exhibitions, including Aberdeen Artists’ Society, of which she was a member. Aberdeen Art Gallery and the public gallery in Auckland, New Zealand, hold her work. Lived in Aberdeen.
