Sculptor and teacher, son of the sculptor Adam Bate. Howard Bate studied in Plymouth, 1914, Torquay, 1915, at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art, 1917, then at the Royal Academy Schools, 1920. Exhibited at RA, which bought his work. Taught at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute for a time. Lived at Edgware, Middlesex, but retired to Bodmin, Cornwall, where he had originated.
