Painter, born in Poland, who became a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany in 1939 and for five years was forced to watch the horrors of nearby concentration camp life. Art became the outlet for his experiences, and he produced haunting, moving pictures. After settling in England in 1946, Mleczko studied at Sir John Cass School, 1950–4, later being influenced and encouraged by the artist Marian Kratochwil. Mleczko was a committee member of the Association of Polish Artists in Great Britain and a member of the Lewes & District Visual Arts Association, in Sussex. Had two exhibitions with Grabowski Gallery, 1961 and 1963, later ones including Lewes Gallery, in Lewes, and POSK Gallery, both 1989. There was a retrospective at the Polish Cultural Institute, 1997.
