A calm, sketchy view across a broad lagoon in Capriccio, Italy. In the left foreground of the compostition, a ruined archway stands beside the remains of a walled building; two men are visible on the shore, looking towards the ruin. A single sailing boat can be seen on the lagoon in the centre of the painting, and on the far right of the shore, hazy and indistinct buildings line the horizon.
