The sculpture depicts a farmer carrying a milk churn, like the ones they would have used to take the milk to the Nestlé Tutbury factory for it to be made into condensed milk. Nestlé chose Hatton for their factory, which opened in 1901, because of its proximity to the many dairy farms, nearby river and adjacent railway. In 1959 the plant underwent its first transformation and started to manufacture Nescafé instant coffee.
