George Fiddes Watt (1873–1960)
Hampshire County Council’s Fine Art CollectionPainter, especially of portraits, and printmaker. He was born in Aberdeen, where he eventually died and where he studied at Gray’s School of Art; was then at Royal Scottish Academy. He showed at RA, RSA to which he was elected in 1924 and RP of which he was a member. His notable portraits include a number of legal figures, such as Viscount Haldane and Viscount Reading. Tate Gallery holds a portrait of his mother.
