Mosaicist, born in Devizes, Wiltshire, a pupil at Bedales School, 1972–7. She was included in Bedales Art & Design, the exhibition organised in 1999 by William Jackson Gallery at Art99, held at the Business Design Centre. Wates studied at Carlisle College of Art & Design, 1977–8, and City and Guilds of London Art School, 1979–82. Her completed public commissions were at locations throughout England, including Coventry, Durham, Grizedale, Keswick, Hamilton, Oxted, Petersfield, Rochester and Tavistock. She also carried out commissions for the actors Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons and the theatre impresario Cameron Mackintosh.
