Abstract painter, born in Birmingham, where he studied at the College of Art, 1966–70, then at Slade School of Fine Art, 1970–2. Awards included Northern Young Contemporaries, where he gained the Stuyvesant Prize, and Southern Young Contemporaries, Arts Council Prize, both 1970; Boise Scholarship, 1972; East Midlands Arts Purchase Award, 1981; and Midland View II, major prizewinner, 1982. Taborn’s work, which was richly coloured and densely textured, was shown in group exhibitions including John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1980; Aberdeen Art Gallery, 1984; and Courtauld Institute, 1991. Had a solo show at Greenwich Theatre Gallery, 1973, later ones including Grob Gallery/University of Nottingham Art Gallery, 1992 (he was a fellow in fine art at Nottingham, 1979–81).
