Versatile artist, born in Kent, who, after working as a photographer, studied at St Martin’s School of Art, 1986–90. He went ostensibly for a film-making course, but became enthusiastic about disposable sculpture. He worked for a time at Better Badges. Subversive, satirical doilies were a feature of Periton’s art. His many group exhibitions included Salama-Caro Gallery, 1990; WM Karaoke, Portikus, Frankfurt, Germany, 1994; Victoria, Laurent Delaye Gallery, 1997; and NewOldTown, Casey Kaplan, New York, America, 1999. Among his later solo shows were Dandeliceum, Sadie Coles HQ, 1997; Camden Arts Centre, 1998; and Hayward Gallery, 1999, for which he created Barroquade. From 2002–3 the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, showed a new work especially made for Gallery 4, which hung over the windows like intricate lace curtains.
