Sculptor born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, son of the sculptor Geoffrey Clarke, under whom he served an apprenticeship from 16. He went on to work mainly in sandcast aluminium from his own studio and foundry in Hartest. He was elected RBS in 1994. Shows included Phoenix Gallery in Lavenham; Moya Bucknall, Solihull; Galerie Am Plats Eglisau, Zürich; Coach House Gallery, Guernsey; and RA Summer Exhibition from 1989. In 1993 had a shared show at Chappel Galleries, Chappel, with a solo exhibition there, 1996, and a series at John Russell Gallery, Ipswich, from 1995. Clarke’s second solo show at Chappel, in 2000, coincided with publication by the gallery of a monograph on his work, Head On, by David Buckman. He had another exhibition there in 2005.
