Bankfield Museum’s exhibition commemorating the region's wartime contribution and experiences has been awarded the 2015 Public History Prize by the Royal Historical Society. The exhibition features over 200 objects, 200 images and archives and 60 local stories to explore local experiences during the First World War. From soldiers, sailors and nurses to those at home working in munitions, hospitals and fundraising. In 2016, new displays to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme opened on 1 July. We are also hosting a new series of Centenary Talks @Bankfield for 2016 (listed below) and a Great War Memorabilia Day on 12 November. The exhibition runs until December 2018 with changes to the galleries and events each year. See our website for more details. Please note this exhibition is on the first floor of the Museum- please contact us to discuss any access requirements.
