Thirlestane Castle is the historic home of the Maitland family and Earls of Lauderdale. The foundations of Thirlestane Castle were laid in 1590, since when the Maitland family and Earls of Lauderdale have added treasures to the castle, famous for its magnificent seventeenth-century plasterwork ceilings.
