This impressive and inspiring castle has been a court and a prison since the Middle Ages. The castle contains a court, the Shire Hall, with magnificent display of heraldry, the Old Cells and the Drop Room, where convicted prisoners were prepared for execution. Oil paintings consist of portraits of people with connections to the area, such as Lord Winmarleigh, or to the function of the Castle as a working Court of Law, and views of the Castle and surrounding area.
