More about

The Arts and Environment Project at The Royal Hospitals, Belfast, has a diverse collection of artwork sited in both clinical and public spaces. Artworks range from contemporary paintings including works by Colin Davidson and Donald Teskey to historical portraits by William Conor, Frank McKelvey and other notable artists. Since it was established in 1989, the Arts and Environment Project has developed into an active and vibrant art project with the aim of improving the quality of the physical healthcare environment and enriching the experience of hospital users through the arts. This is achieved through the purchase and commissioning of artworks, workshops for patients and staff, collaborative projects with external organisations and donations from local artists. To meet the demands of modern medicine the Project continues to diversify into new areas of practice through a bolder and more stimulating approach to the arts while at the same time positively influencing the health care environment for the benefit of all users including patients, staff and visitors.
