More about

The Fergusson Gallery holds the single largest and most important collection of paintings by the popular Scottish Colourist John Duncan Fergusson. It also features an impressive selection of pictures by his lifelong partner, Margaret Morris. She was a modern dance pioneer, artist and author and they were together for nearly 50 years. With many common themes in their work, this progressive couple hold an important place in the development of art and dance in Britain in the first half of the twentieth century. The Gallery opened in 1992 with a generous donation of Fergusson's entire estate from the J. D. Fergusson Art Foundation. Significantly adding to this in 2010, the gift of the Margaret Morris Collection came from the International Association of Margaret Morris Movement. Ongoing collecting ensures that the holdings continue to develop and expand. Notable Fergusson paintings in the collectin include 'At My Studio Window', 'Le manteau chinois' and 'Danu, Mother of the Gods'. The collection and facilities at this location are managed by Culture Perth and Kinross on behalf of Perth & Kinross Council. The gallery is now closed and the collection will be moved to the refreshed galleries at Perth Art Gallery in 2024.
