More about

Open to the public since 1991, The Fan Museum is the UK’s only museum entirely devoted to the history, culture and craft of the fan. Small-scale, Independent and accredited by Arts Council England, the Museum is situated within the World Heritage Site of Greenwich, London. A pair of Listed Georgian period townhouses accommodate the Museum and its ever-expanding collections. Gathered from across the world & encompassing more than 1,000 years of fan artistry, the collections exceed 7,000 objects.

The Museum usually curates three fan-themed exhibitions per year which cover broad-ranging themes, such as, for example, Classical history, fashion and ethnography. A complementary permanent display on the Museum's ground floor explores the craft and techniques of fan making. The Museum also runs regular fan making workshops, a fan conservation unit and has research facilities available by appointment only.
