More about

Located on the Ayrshire coast, Culzean Castle is perched on a rocky promontory, with a superb panoramic view over the Firth of Clyde towards the Isle of Arran. Protected by tall cliffs and the sea on one side and a steep glen on the other, Culzean was originally the site of a tower house in the 1400s. This was transformed in the eighteenth century into a neoclassical mansion and one of the most enchanting places in Scotland. The castle itself boasts a spectacular oval staircase, the impressive armoury and the round drawing room, with its panoramic views over the Clyde. The extensive grounds encompass Scotland’s first country park, where you can explore the deer park, swan pond, adventure playground and miles of woodland walks. The collection at Culzean includes original Robert Adam items alongside a rich collection of portraits and sailing scenes.
