More about

Montrose Air Station was Britain's first operational military airfield. Set up by the Royal Flying Corps in 1913, it dates from the very early period of manned flight when planes were, quite literally, kites. The Heritage Centre's fine collection of photographs, artefacts and memorabilia is used to tell the story of the airfield through the memories and experiences of the thousands of men and women who served here between 1913 and 1950. The small collection of paintings reflects the subject matter of the Museum and the artists' keen interest in military aircraft.
