The Methodist Modern Art Collection is one of the Church’s greatest treasures. It is an outstanding collection of Christian art illustrating the gospel narrative from the Nativity to Pentecost. The Collection was founded by Dr John Morel Gibbs during the post-war revival in British religious painting. Significant works acquired between 1962 and 1965 became the core of the present Collection. Since then, it has grown to comprise more than 50 paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures by artists from across the world. It has enhanced worship, enthused mission, amazed visitors, inspired poetry and dance, and encouraged many supporters. The Collection is available for loan and tours widely, being shown in galleries, cathedrals, universities and schools. Please check the Methodist Modern Art Collection website for the current exhibition programme.
