Leighton House is the former studio-home of painter, sculptor and public figure Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896). One of the most famous British artists of the Victorian age, Leighton was President of the Royal Academy of Arts for 18 years. From its first construction in the 1860s up until shortly before Leighton’s death, his purpose-built studio-house in Holland Park, created with architect George Aitchison, was a constant preoccupation. The highlight of any visit is the spectacular Arab Hall, inspired by La Zisa in Palermo, and featuring a striking collection of 16th-17th century Syrian tiles.
