Kirkcaldy Galleries, managed by Fife Cultural Trust on behalf of Fife Council, is one of Fife’s major cultural venues. Located in the heart of the town, it opened in June 2013 following a £2.5 million refurbishment bringing together Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery and Kirkcaldy Central Library. The Scottish art collection is one of the finest in the country. The jewels in the crown are two large groups of works by the Scottish Colourist Samuel John Peploe (1871–1935) and the Victorian artist William McTaggart (1835–1910). An astonishing 38 oils by Peploe, spanning the length of his career, are held by the Galleries – the largest single group of his oil paintings publicly held. McTaggart is one of Scotland’s greatest seascape and landscape artists and 27 oils by him are in the Kirkcaldy collection.
