Kent Police Museum

Kent Police Museum collects, conserves and interprets artefacts and associated information relating to policing and the history of policing, crime and law enforcement in Kent from 1800. This includes the present Kent Police force and previously existing Borough police forces that were eventually amalgamated into the Kent Police. The museum was established in the 1970s at force headquarters in Maidstone but was eventually closed in 1992 to make room for offices. The collection moved to the Historic Dockyard in Chatham in 1994. The museum holds artefacts including uniform, equipment, documents, photographs and court exhibits, dating from 1836 to the current time. These artefacts are from both the county police and from the borough, city and town police forces within the county of Kent before 1943.
