Hull Maritime Museum opened in 1975 in the former Dock Offices built between 1868 and 1871. It is one of nine sites that constitute Hull City Council Museums. It houses a wide variety of objects relating to Hull's maritime heritage such as internationally renowned works of the art of scrimshaw, ship models, fishing and docker's tools, photographs and a large collection of important maritime paintings. These include portraits, shipping scenes and seascapes. One of the earliest is 'Molly and Friends' dated 1787, by Thomas Fletcher II, of whaling ships. Other important artists include John Ward, Henry Redmore and Robert Willoughby.
