More about

This elegant Georgian house is a Grade II listed building that was bequeathed to the people of Workington and district for use as a museum by the late Helena Thompson. The museum, opened to the public in 1949, reflects the history, industry, culture and social life of the area. Oil paintings are situated throughout the building. The three paintings of the ‘Amathea’ disaster and the ‘Philomela off Harrington’ are beautiful works of art by Joseph Heard.
