More about

The Museum is housed in a Victorian police station, which was opened in 1879 and features the original cells and charge office, together with an 1895 Magistrates' Court which was rescued from nearby Denton police station. The collection reflects the material culture of policing in the area that is now known as Greater Manchester, and comprises objects, official and personal archive material, photographic images and the three paintings listed here in the catalogue. Items in the collection date from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. Objects range in size from whistles to motorcycles while the archive holdings document the many social changes which have affected urban policing over the course of the last 150 years.
