More about

Dingwall Museum has around 20 oil paintings, a number of which were gifted to the Museum Trust by the Town Council when it was dissolved in 1975. There are paintings of former Provosts of the town dating from 1777 through to 1975. Over the years the museum has collected paintings relevant to the area either through the subject matter or the artist. Most have been donated to the museum and gifts continue to be presented from local sources. The Collection includes ‘Holy Family’, attributed to the School of Titian (1580–1600); a portrait of Sir Hector MacDonald (1880–1900), a local hero; and paintings of William Ewart Gladstone, Prime Minister and his maternal Grandfather, Andrew Robertson who served three terms as Provost of Dingwall between 1777 and 1796. The museum also has several landscape paintings and portraits of members of the Mackenzie of Seaforth family.
