As a result, the art is diverse and eclectic in both style and content. The museum acquires work through donations and purchases, often with the support of the Friends of Ceredigion Museum. Many works have been donated by local people and this generosity continues, enabling the collection to develop and expand. The paintings permanently housed in the museum document the wild local landscapes in the Romantic style, portraits of notable local family members and a large collection of nautical work recounting the history generated in the sixty miles of Ceredigion coastline. The short-term exhibitions show work conveying a variety of modern styles and viewpoints of the area and its people.
