The University of Leeds has collected works of art throughout its history, commissioning and acquiring pieces that reflect and support its scholarly and educational roles. The consistent quality of the art collection, unusual for a British university, owes much to the vision of generous individuals and groups, united by a conviction that life is enriched by an understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts. The Collection includes stunning examples of European and British paintings, drawings and prints, dating from the seventeenth century up to the present day, as well as small collections of sculpture, ceramics, miniatures and photographs.
