More about

Flintshire Museums Service holds a collection of just over 100 oil paintings by local artists. The vast majority of these were painted by James Bentley, a Buckley pharmacist who was also an enthusiastic local historian, as well as a prolific amateur artist. He painted local historical scenes and his work is remarkable for the amount of historical information in both the paintings themselves and the descriptions he often wrote on the reverse. The collection also includes several large civic portraits and three significant portraits of Daniel Owen, the Victorian Welsh novelist.
