Adolphe Valette
Manchester was the adopted city of Adolphe Valette (1876–1942), a French artist who came to England in 1904. An exceptional draughtsman, from 1906 to 1920 he taught at the Municipal School of Art where he influenced many artists, most notably L. S. Lowry (1887–1976), his most famous pupil.
Manchester Art Gallery presents a range of gifts inspired by his much-loved paintings of the city, including Albert Square, York Street Leading to Charles Street and more.
